Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

This mobile craft turned out cuter than I expected.  The original plan was to make star and moon shapes out of glue and glitter on wax paper and then peel them off to make a mobile.  But I used way too much glue and then left them outside to dry and it rained.  So instead of wax paper, we used aluminum foil.  I drew some celestial shapes on the foil (which I wrapped on a baking sheet to both stabilize it and catch all the excess glitter) and Eva painted them with white glue.

Then she sprinkled glitter all over the place glue.

When the glue dried, I cut out the shapes and attached them to curling ribbon with clear tape.  I used the extra aluminum foil to form a ring and hung the shapes from it.  It is actually really pretty when it catches the sunlight and even sparkles a little in the dark.

Greetings Earthlings

Today Eva was transformed into a creature from outer space.  We made this cute alien headband using green and white paper, pink pipe cleaners and markers.  To start, I cut two strips of green paper and two circles.  Eva decorated them with markers.  (I got a new pack of Crayola markers at Walgreens for $3 and after a $3 rebate they were free!)

The circles will become part of the alien's eyes.  I cut out two white circles to also be part of the eyes and Eva drew the iris on each.

We then glued the eyes together.

I curled the pipe cleaners around one of the markers and stapled an eye to each.  Next I stapled the other end of the pipe cleaner to the green strips.  Finally I fitted the headband to Eva's head.  Apparently even aliens say "cheese" when they see a camera.

We also created a night sky in our exploration station.  I covered the window seat with white paper that we colored with all sorts of blue, black and purple crayons. 

Eva has been adding start stickers to the sky.  We have been counting them all together and counting how many there are of each color.  Later in the week, I may connect a few to make our own constellations (if they aren't all in a straight line like they are now.)

Kids...In...Space...

We are off to outer space this week to explore the sun, moon, stars and planets.  We may even have an alien encounter!

Heavenly Mobile- we'll use glue and lots of glitter to make a sparkly mobile

Starry Night Drawing- wet chalk on dry, dark paper will help us create a night time sky scene

Toilet Paper Tube Rocket- get ready to blast-off with our very own rocket ship

Alien Antennae- this fun headband will transform us into creatures from another planet

Activities
Planet Sort- we will arrange the planets in size order from biggest to smallest

Star Patterns- using the felt board and our felt stars, we will create various patterns and try to figure out what come next

Night Sky- Eva will get to hone her fine motor skills decorating the exploration station with tiny star stickers to create her own constellations

Heavenly Body Toss- using a tissue paper sun, moon and earth, we'll try to toss them into a galaxy (aka laundry basket)
